Public Services (Energy)
To the extent that the private sector has acquired or otherwise assumed operation of privatized public sector services, a body of new legislation has been enacted to regulate and arbitrate these newly aligned activities. The two important regulatory agencies created to provide oversight, known as the Autoridad Nacional de los Servicios Públicos and the Autoridad de Proteccion al Consumidor y Defensa de la Competencia, protect consumers' interests and regulate numerous public services and utilities. Chief among these are energy, telecommunications, mining and transportation. Recently added to the latter are transportation services related to such activities as airports and other public terminals.
