Galindo, Arias & Lopez is pleased to announce that the Panama Canal Expansion Financing was recently recognized by Latin Lawyer as the 2009 Deal of the Year in the Project Finance Category.
Galindo, Arias & Lopez advised Shearman & Sterling and the Panama Canal Authority (PCA) in this US$2.3 billion transaction, which involved five multilateral and development agencies, and which took place in the middle of the world financial crisis, making it the most complex of its time.
The Panama Canal expansion project is estimated at US$5.25 billion and will double the Panama Canal’s capacity, which will allow the transit of substantially larger vessels, such as the Post-Panamax containers ships. The Galindo, Arias & Lopez team included partners Diego Herrera and Salomon Behar.
This year the Latin Lawyer The Deal of the Year Awards Dinner was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
This recognition, as well as others received recently, reaffirm Galindo, Arias & Lopez leadership in Project Finance practice.
